1. Do you take health insurance?

Unfortunately, I am a private pay practice. I have learned that dealing with insurance companies and offering a diagnostic label is not how I see my clients or how I desire to treat them. I work best with the freedom to run my practice without any attached red tape and outside influences wanting to review confidential medical information to get paid.

2. How often do you see clients?

I see people on a bi-weekly basis for 50-minute sessions unless symptoms are severe enough to require weekly visits.

3.  WHAT ARE YOUR HOURS OF OPERATION?

I am in the office Wednesday through Friday from 9 to 5. I do not work Mondays, evenings, or weekends. Virtual and in-person sessions are available.

4.  WHAT ages do you work with?

The youngest client I will see is 18 years of age unless there is an exceptional circumstance that can be discussed by phone. I am not certified and do not have the training to see children or younger adolescents. You can find a therapist who specializes in this here.

5.  Do you accept Health Savings Cards (HSA)?

Yes. As long as it has a MasterCard or Visa logo on it. I will provide you with a receipt to submit for reimbursement if you do not have a card.

6. What type of payment do you accept?

I accept cash, Venmo, checks, or credit cards collected at each 50-minute session.

7. What should I expect in the first session?

Sessions are 50 minutes long, during which I will gather a little bit of your history and understand what you want to work on in counseling.  Once we both have a clear understanding of what you are trying to accomplish and what my role is, we will move forward in developing a treatment plan.

8. How long does therapy usually last?

That depends on the individual and the severity of what they are working through.   I’ve seen people for three sessions, and I’ve seen them for 3 years.  It depends on the depth of healing and what we are trying to resolve.

9. Do you prescribe medication?

No.  I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and we are not permitted to prescribe medication. You will need to consult with your primary doctor or psychiatrist if this is the route you wish to take.

10.  Are you a spiritual or Christian Counselor?

No.  You must obtain a separate degree to identify yourself as a professional in that field.  However, I am spiritual, and I do believe in the mission of Jesus Christ, though I would never impose any of my beliefs on clients unless they ask me to integrate that into their process.

11. Are you able to discuss my case with anyone else?

No.  Just like any medical provider, HIPAA binds me, and it is illegal for me to disclose any information about you unless you give me a written release to do so.  However, there are circumstances in which I may need to discuss the dynamics of your case in clinical supervision to make sure you are getting the best care.  If this is the case, you will be informed, and no personally identifiable information will ever be shared.

12. Does EMDR work?

Yes. Depending on the client and the circumstances they are dealing with, it is highly effective. Please see my Resources page for more information.

13. Who do I contact if I am in crisis?

I will be available after hours for crises & emergencies only.  That ONLY includes if you are suicidal, you or your children are being abused, or you are in danger.  If I do not answer, immediately call Crisis Services at 716-831-3131.
